It was June 2009 at The Brit Oval; the weather was pleasant; the food was plentiful; and the guests were in good humour. NIIT Technologies invited customers and prospects to enjoy a day of international cricket.
A good start beckoned for a good day’s cricket – The Semi Final day of ICC World Twenty 20 cricket saw the women’s match of England v Australia in the morning, and the men’s match Sri Lanka v West Indies, played in the afternoon.
Brilliant batting from Claire Taylor and Beth Morgan saw England’s women team produce a stirring fight back, beating Australia. The team eventually went on to win the world cup at Lords.
In the men’s match, Tillakaratne Dilshan scored an unbeaten 96 and Angelo Mathews took three wickets in five balls, to set Sri Lanka on the way towards a crushing 57-run win over the West Indies, sealing their place to an all Asian ICC World Twenty20 final. Sri Lanka were eventually beaten by a very dominant Pakistani team in the last most crucial match.
All had an extremely enjoyable day “Thank you and your colleagues at NIIT for a wonderful day, we had a great time and it was very well organised” said one guest. “The weather, the cricket, the company and the hospitality was first class. It was a real treat“ commented another.
